Micah Parsons Packers’ debut impressive, now Cowboys must face the truth
Sunday’s game was the first step toward closure from the Micah Parsons’ trade
On third and seven, star defensive end Micah Parsons entered the game for the first time as a member of the Green Bay Packers. At Lambeau Field, fans welcomed him with a standing ovation, almost as if they knew what was about to happen later.
Parsons, still learning the defensive scheme of his new team after being traded by the Dallas Cowboys days before the regular season, communicated with a teammate to know where to line up. Moments later, he pressured Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and forced him to throw an incompletion to get the defense off the field. It was only the beginning of what would be an impactful debut.
With only a 45% snap count to his name, Parsons generated three pressures per ESPN. In addition to the one he got in his first play of the game, he added one that led to an interception and another one which was a sack. As Parsons pointed up at the sky celebrating the big play, Packers fans went wild, knowing they had the missing piece to make them a Super Bowl contender.
The experience was a little different for Cowboys fans watching from home. It stung.
Like watching that ex you still can’t get over with a new couple for the first time. And yet, it was the first step toward closure. Parsons is a Green Bay Packer. And he’s going to be great regardless of the new colors he wears on the field. Now it’s time to move on.

Moving on starts with acknowledging the winner of the Parsons trade
For Cowboys Nation, admitting the Parsons trade was the result of a botched negotiating process should help getting over it. On Sunday, my X (formerly Twitter) mentions were flooded with fans coping about the star’s departure, mostly by criticizing him. But I’ll be honest with you, the takes didn’t match the standout play from Parsons on the field.
The way I see it, there’s nothing wrong with facing it: The Packers got one of the best defenders in football, who happened to be available only because the Cowboys front office couldn’t make it work at the negotiating table. Months ago, Dallas was trying to sign him to a deal with the highest-guaranteed money ever. Now, Green Bay is enjoying his talent through first-row tickets.
“He definitely has an aura about him, and his style of play fits with our other guys,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said postgame. “I think all those guys are excited to play with him, and they all benefit from that.”
Let me be clear, I’m not saying the Cowboys won’t ever recover from the deal. As they showed Thursday night, they can go toe-to-toe with top opponents. And I do think defensive tackle Kenny Clark addresses an important need on the team’s roster. I am, however, being honest about how Sunday felt. Parsons is on a better team. He and the Packers are on the winning side of the trade. And right now, it feels like Dallas won’t ever emerge as the winner of it like they did with the Herschel Walker deal in 1989.
Let’s check in on how it feels in Week 4, when these two exes—the Cowboys and Micah—square off against one another on Sunday Night Football.
