The Return of WR Jayden Reed Should Give the Packers Offense a Real Boost in 2026
The return of key injured players will be a big factor in the Green Bay Packers success in 2026. While most experts are focusing on Micah Parsons, Tucker Kraft, and Zach Tom, one player who shouldn’t be overlooked is wide receiver Jayden Reed. While Reed returned late last season, he was not really at full strength in most of the seven games he played in 2025. The return of Jayden Reed should give the Packers offense a real boost in 2026.
The Packers selected Reed in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Michigan State star made an immediate impact on the offense as a rookie. Reed led the Packers with 64 catches for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. He accomplished this despite playing only 56 percent of the team’s offensive snaps.
Head coach Matt LaFleur also liked to utilize Reed on gadget plays like jet sweeps, end arounds and bubble screens. Reed also gained 119 yards on 11 rushing attempts and scored two more touchdowns on the ground.
Reed led the Packers in catches again in 2024. Playing primarily out of the slot, he caught 55 passes for 857 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the football 20 times for 163 yards and one touchdown. His snap count increased to 63 percent.

Unfortunately, Reed suffered through a frustrating and injury-plagued 2025. Early in the season, he announced he had a Jones fracture in his foot, but he would attempt to play through it. In Week 2, he then suffered a broken collarbone. He did not return until Week 14 and was not fully healthy.
A Big Deal
For the season, Reed caught 19 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown while playing 42 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in the seven games he appeared in.
This offseason, Reed signed a new contract extension with the Packers that will kick in for the 2027 season. The three-year extension averages $16.75 million per year and includes a signing bonus of $20.5 million. That makes Reed the 31st highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL as of now.
When asked at minicamp about whether he could have gotten more money, Reed was straightforward. “This is the place where I wanted to be, so I don’t think it was really any issue,” Reed said. “I’m not a greedy guy, man. I do this for the love of the game, and my teammates, and I work very hard for it. So, it was just my decision, just to be in Green Bay. This is something I wanted to happen, and that was this decision we agreed on.”
Reed had another big event happen this offseason as he got engaged to the reigning Miss Wisconsin, Aneisha Cox.

Now, the key for Reed will be returning to the lineup in good health and getting back to his prior level of productivity.
The Return of Jayden Reed Should Give the Packers Offense a Real Boost: Looking Ahead
The Packers understand the value Reed brings to the offense. When Reed was injured last season, LaFleur was clear about the impact that would have. “Obviously, it’s a big blow for us,” LaFleur admitted. “He’s a guy that’s a catalyst for our offense and our football team, quite frankly. The energy he brings. He’s a dawg. He comes out there and he’s gonna compete. He plays tough, physical, and he’s a playmaker.”
GM Brian Gutekunst also loves what Reed brings to the team. When Reed signed his contract extension in April, Gute was asked why the team opted to extend their slot receiver. “Because he helps us win,” Gutekunst said. “He’s one of those guys who’s a winning football player. Obviously, he missed some time last year, but when he’s on the field, we’re a better football team. No doubt about it. We were really excited to get that done.”
Now that the deal is done, Reed has to live up to it. A healthy and productive Reed combined with the other starting wideouts Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Kraft at tight end should give the Packers a formidable group of starting targets for Jordan Love this season.
